About the National Benchmark Test (NBT)

The NBT is an assessment for prospective first-year students into Higher Education. It consists of two tests: AQL (Academic and Quantitative Literacy) and MAT (Mathematics).

AQL: All applicants to university must write the AQL test. It assesses your capacity to engage with the demands of academic study.

MAT: This test is written by applicants to programmes that require Mathematics (e.g., Engineering, Science, Commerce). It complements the NSC Mathematics results.

Use our practice exams and past papers to familiarize yourself with the question format and time constraints.
